Guiding Principles

  • Education and child development: The Foundation aims to create opportunities for access to education and comprehensive development for disadvantaged children, giving them a solid academic foundation and the ability to become self-reliant in the future.
  • Compliance with the law and children's rights: The Foundation operates in accordance with Vietnamese law and respects the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
  • Neutrality: The Foundation does not associate with or incorporate political, religious, or extremist elements in any of its activities.

Organization Type

Future Steps Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the education and well-being of disadvantaged children in Vietnam.

Scope of activities and eligible beneficiaries

  • The Foundation focuses on supporting disadvantaged children in Vietnam, prioritizing orphans, those from poor households, families who have lost their ability to work, and other special cases.
  • Eligibility: students from grade 2 through grade 12.
  • Eligibility criteria, the intake process, and detailed target groups are specified in Operating Procedures.

Support Objectives

We nurture and support the children until they graduate from 12th grade, then guide them toward university or vocational training — so that each child acquires at least one skill and one profession to support themselves independently. Support follows five tiers:

  • Basic needs: food, clothing, and school supplies
  • Education: tuition fees, tutors/private teachers, computers/school supplies
  • Companionship: provide emotional and psychological care, helping the children develop their best selves — caring for them like family
  • Skills: foreign languages, computer skills, life skills
  • Future direction: career guidance, scholarships, employment

Transparency and governance principles

  • The Foundation is committed to transparency in managing and utilizing sponsorship funds.
  • All operational and financial information is stored and managed through an internal system.
  • All support activities are carried out according to clear principles, with proper oversight and traceability when needed.

Legal compliance and child protection

  • The Foundation complies with Vietnam's Law on Children and all related legal regulations.
  • The Foundation is committed to protecting the rights, dignity, and safety of children in all its activities.
  • All activities are carried out to ensure the best interests of the children.

Rights and roles of sponsors

  • Sponsors may choose to support one or more children throughout their educational journey.
  • All support is coordinated through the Foundation to ensure it reaches the right purpose and recipients.
  • The Foundation is responsible for compiling, managing, and providing regular updates on the status of support.
  • Sponsors are welcome to participate in monthly online meetings and annual summer camps organized by the Foundation.
  • In-person visits to children at their local areas must be arranged through the Foundation to ensure the children's safety.
  • All support is provided in accordance with principles of transparency, oversight, and non-interference with the Foundation's professional operations.

Children's information privacy

  • Children's personal information, photos, and circumstances are used solely for the Foundation's operational purposes.
  • Sharing children's information and images on media channels requires consent from legal guardians and must comply with identity protection principles when necessary.
  • Volunteers and sponsors are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of children's personal information obtained during their involvement.

Oversight and reporting mechanisms

  • The Foundation provides periodic support status reports to sponsors.
  • Organize at least one three-way online meeting per month (Sponsor — Foundation — Children) to provide updates on academic progress and daily life.
  • Local volunteers are responsible for on-the-ground monitoring and facilitating meeting connections.
  • Each child's file is fully managed: case number, personal information, background, support history, assigned case manager, and periodic reports.

Financial Mechanism

  • 100% of sponsorship funds reach the children. The 20% operating cost is added on top of the sponsor's contribution and is not deducted from the children's support funds.
  • General contributions (not designated for a specific child) and revenue from fundraising products go into the general fund, supporting operations and providing supplemental assistance to the children.
  • All income and expenditures are publicly available through a transparent account and can be verified in real time.

Charter Amendments

  • The charter may be amended or supplemented as needed by the Foundation's Executive Board.
  • All changes will be publicly announced on the Foundation's website.
